I was wondering if anyone here had experience with wildcard certificates whereby a vendor limits the number of device/licences that are granted with the certificate.
We have a number of clients that use Symantec wildcard certificates, and from what I read, Symantec offer unlimited licences with their wildcard certificates.
However, from what I have read on various forums, the "unlimited licences" does not appear to be a universal trait.
As such, I was wondering how it is possible to check the number of licences a certificate has granted with it (e.g. other than asking the vendor specifically, is there a way to check this within a certifiate itself), and also, I'm especially interested in knowing the mechanisms involved for a vendor to keep track of how many certificate licences have been used, and how it knows when more than the allowed number of devices are using the certificate.
