"symantec endpoint protection 12.1.601.4699" AV definitions do not download as described in https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH193260.html
I am assisting a friend that has "symantec endpoint protection 12.1.601.4699" on a machine that has been powered off for a few years he does not know the origin of this. This is a home user WIN XP Home OS. I can find no product registration info, or subscription information, or version info in main window of SEP application. (Why would you design an application like that?). Can you clarify https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH193260.html - can I download an updated version of this software for this so the AV definitions will start updating again? Will this cost money to update? Is SEP 12.1.601.4699 some kind of trialware?

Update: Since posting I ran the installer repair option from control panel, and SEP disappeared as repair failed, rebooted and repeated and it started ok but is now showing more warnings. Before I did this AV defs were the only warning now it looks like it has removed existing definitions. I am not impressed on this mess, I assume I have made it worse now (and liveupdate did not help)?
