Problem with SEP installation on a fresh and up-to-date XP machbine

After completely updating a fresh WinXP with SP3 and all updates up to the end of support I am trying to install SEP unmanaged client. All versions (12.1.1, 12.1.4, 12.1.6) after being installed and ypdated cause WindowsXP to not allow access to external disks ("local disk"), some applications do not start due to being "not a valid Win32 application", some icons in the control panel are missing or do not execute correctly. After uninstalling ANY of the above SEP versions, everything works great and smooth! Is this a known issue and can this be resolved?
